Development, production and installation of an immature relief in cooperation with the Research Factory of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
1st prize in the art-in-building competition New Research Factory, KIT and Fraunhofer Institute, Building 70.41, East Campus, 2021
Realization 2022
With the materials and means of the Karlsruhe Research Factory, the relief "Immature Process" will be produced in an "immature process", which stands both performatively and allegorically for the future-oriented, open development and production space in the new building.
For the relief, 12 façade panels are dismantled and partially unfolded, pressed and mountainously deformed in the research factory, and subsequently measured by sensors at the Fraunhofer Institute in order to obtain the parameters for remounting. After reinstallation in the facade, the undefined form appears as if it was created by a force from within the building. It clearly contrasts with the linear order of the trapezoidal sheet metal facade and becomes a significant marker of the research factory. "Immature Process" can become a powerful example of a successful interplay between "art and research". In a process of mutual service, a sculptural product is created that is itself evidence of the methodological theory of the research factory and the performative understanding of art on which it is based. In it, not only the production process can be read, but it also coincides with its meaning: signifier is signified et vice versa.
