The traffic training area Oase is an unreal world that has fallen out of time. It is reduced in size and revolved around itself, separated from the surrounding urban space around the Kottbusser Tor by a fence. By hoisting a modified European flag and playing amateurish attempts to intonate the European hymn on the xylophone, the oasis becomes a walk-in, surreal allegory of the European Union: an artificially created, cherished, well-kept structure whose outer borders as well as inner boundaries have become precarious, controversial and dangerous in the globalised present.
